Wherever you go, there you are... 👊
"Wherever you go, there you are..."
-- Confucius (maybe?)
So.. the way I had interpreted the saying:
Don't fret too much about the change you hope to see in yourself. KNOW that it is possible to realize that change.... because the change you are seeking, is already there.
I do enjoy reading other interpretations. Some seem rather motivational:
"Mindfulness means paying attention [to the world] in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."
-- Jon Kabat-Zinn
-- Jon Kabat-Zinn
And some.... seem rather negative:
"It means that if you don't like yourself, or you haven't made peace with yourself for things you've done in the past, you will be dealing with that baggage forever."
"No matter what - YOU are the Thing you bring wherever you travel. "
So, what is my hangup with the quote, or more aptly, what the quote implies?
It seems to remove the possibility of controlling your own destiny. Maybe.
It seems to imply that you have always been the person you are... and will always be - you're simply trying to find a way to let that "version" of you be available/present.
I'm definitely a "take the red pill" kind of person.
"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."
―Morpheus, to Neo. The term redpill refers to a human that is aware of the true nature of the Matrix.
MORPHEUS: Do you believe in fate, Neo?
NEO: No.
MORPHEUS: Why not?
NEO: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life
While pondering this whole thing, it has made me wonder what it would be like if EVERYONE meditated and was mindful. Would everyone become more compassionate and understanding? Would there be more empathy?
Or... would a guy like Dick Cheney become a super-villian? I.e. are humans inherently kind/nice and somehow abandon those traits in their quest for whatever it is they are seeking? Or... are some people inherently evil and bad. (I wonder if this question is more grounded in Philosophy or Psychology).
