Extremism, ironically, rarely solves anything...

I firmly believe, at this time, that for anything to be done with society (and consequently the health of our planet) it will be the moderates who will need to bridge the gap, make both "sides" understand each other, and drive resolution. TBCont'd....

Observations... (pessimism vs optimism)

Pessimism and Optimism are both merely emotions or feelings... until they are validated. And if you're saying ... "ahhh... oK?" I had considered that someone in the 80's who was running around lamenting all the cars on the road, and vilifying all the rampant consumerism and cursing them both saying "this is going to destroy the planet" - was considered a pessimist.  "Ohhh..you're just being negative" - then 2 (or 3) decades later the rants became truth.  Now that person is labeled a realist. We apply a undesirable label people who have negative views or thoughts... even if they happen to (eventually) be right.

As I get ready in the morning... and ponder if I am going skateboarding.. or mountain biking... or rock climbing... while simultaneously wondering if the gray hairs I am seeing are new... or had been there unnoticed...  it is kind of a trip.  ;-) I found it amusing when I realized that most/all of my hobbies involves helmets and safety gear. It's pretty rad that this recent generation introduced "participation trophies" while also making snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, and skateboarding mainstream activities - additionally while focusing on making it accessible to all people that age. #midlifekickturns yo

Happiness: Purpose, Hope... Distraction - PHD (Triquetra)

I'm still trying to figure this one out... a work in progress. Getting by:  you have any single attribute Happiness:  you have any two attributes True Happiness:  you have all three attributes. Raising the bar - the idea that if you frequently elevate your experience (by doing cool stuff), that you raise the median of your experience... and if you can't sustain that level, you feel disappointed.  (needs more explanation) Crisis Identity - certainly not a new concept... but I wonder if disappointment stems from feeling as though you *want* to be one person... but you are, in fact, not.. that person. Injustice  - and feeling helpless to fix it.  Shitty people doing shitty things... good people having shitty days and doing shitty things...  Either way, there is so much inconsiderate and selfish behavior in the world - and for whatever reason, I feel compelled to be irritated by that when I observe it. Noise  - there is soooo muc...

First day, of the rest of my life... (aka - Day 1)

Or as I have recently learned Jeff Bezos refers to it as "Day 1".  Every day.. is Day 1. So, I am a bit awestruck with Amazon at this point.  There are things that would be quite simple to be amazed with... but, it's a lot of nuanced things that I have found to be truly amazing and motivational. I am excited about so many different aspects about Amazon, but the way they manage people, deliver products/services is truly revolutionary.  I can't wait to learn more. From my personal perspective:  I think I misunderstood Amazon.  They are not trying to sell anyone anything... they are simply trying to fulfill what customers desire, in the most efficient and cost-effective way.  It was hard to wrap my head around as I was coming to this conclusion.  But... Amazon is totally customer obsessed.  The fact that they happen to have billions in sales is simply to make happy customers.  I don't see the same margin-driven behaviors of retailers from ...

End of an Era - hanging up my Red Hat... another Renaissance, man...

I Remember - deadmau5  Interestingly this song happened to play after I had accepted my offer and hung up the phone while driving to my hotel. The second week of 2019, I was met with some rather daunting decisions I had to embrace. I'll chronicle the details of the happenstance of me sitting in an Amazon office on a Tuesday shortly after the new year began... later. To the cloud... So, I went through "the loop" starting early on a Tuesday.  I was actually apprehensive after it was all done.  I didn't really feel stressed (or exhausted as I had heard I might feel).  The interview ended, much like it began - pleasant and jovial conversation, joking about a "day in the life" of an IT person.  The portion of the interview process where two folks were specifically supposed to challenge me in a particular way, felt quite comfortable and natural.  It's nice to legitimately just be myself in a situation where I am being scrutinized. I had a bit...
