Carpe Diem... (in-progress)
"It would be awesome to move somewhere cool, BUT...."
"I really want to live in a van and mountain bike around the country, BUT...."
Fortunately I have not been keeping a list of all the things I thought I wanted to do, but didn't. Unfortunately, I know that if I thought about it, there would be a list. Regardless, the point is: well, here we go...
An interesting thing I have experienced through the process of trying explore life's options: (most) people are afraid.
Here is an example of a conversation
Me: I kind of want to live differently and experience more things.
Friend: Cool, you should totally do whatever it takes to make you happy. What do you mean though?
Me: Like, buy a RV-van and drive around the country and ride all the best trails. I can work remote and still fly to places to work when I need to.
Friend: Whoa - I didn't literally mean "whatever it takes". That sounds crazy.
I am jealous of those who go through life feeling content. And I'm not being sarcastic or intending to sound snarky. Whether they had to navigate their way to being content, or if simply *just happened* - I feel that they are fortunate. Conversely - I may never be content and always chasing something. And, I suppose, that can be good too. If I spend time/energy chasing my dreams, the experiences will all be worth it (I hope ;-)
I believe the scope of being a Renaissance Man does not have to be limited to things like "wow, you can do woodworking, and play guitar, and know about Russian Literature". It can be grand things like, "wow, you lived a foreign country? You got rid of all your stuff and lived in a van? You know about Russian Literature?"

"I think balance is way harder than success... I definitely want some of both, but I'm more interested in balance... not for it's own sake, but for the sake of happiness." -- friend, 2020 (I have not asked for their permission to reference them here)
